Biography:
Richard came to LSU in 1986 as a Research Associate in the Department of Animal Science. In 1999, he joined the Department faculty as an Instructor, and currently manages the LSU Embryo
Biotechnology Laboratory.
During his undergraduate career at Penn State University, Richard worked at the Beef Cattle Center and became interested in reproductive physiology and the new field of embryo transfer. Immediately following graduation from Penn State, Richard worked as an embryologist for North American Breeders in Berryville, VA. In 1983 he took the position of Director of Embryo Transfer at Price's Dairies, Inc. in Array, NM. As Director of Embryo Transfer, Richard was responsible for the development and management of an in house ET program for a 2,000-cow dairy. During this time, Price's Dairies implemented an embryo cryopreservation and micromanipulation program that enabled them to produce some of the first split embryo calves in the Country.
As a Research Associate and Instructor at the LSU Embryo
Biotechnology Laboratory, Richard's responsibilities include the overall management of the facility, organization of training courses and coordination of the Program's outside research collaborators. His interests include the application of assisted reproductive technologies and the commercialization of other biotechnologies. Richard has also been involved in consulting for bovine embryo transfer programs in Central and South America, the Caribbean, Africa, Australia and Europe. He is a member of Gamma Sigma Delta (The Honor Society of Agriculture), Beta Gamma Sigma (The Honor Society of Collegiate Business Schools), the International Embryo Transfer Society, the Louisiana Alliance for Biotechnology, the American Association of Bioanalysts, Woman's Hospital Center for Fertility and Advanced Reproductive Medicine Bioethics Committee, the Consortium of Aquariums, Universities and Zoos and the Downtown Kiwanis Club.
