Greetings from the Coordinator, Dr. Kenneth A. Gravois

Welcome to the St. Gabriel/Sugar Research Station, located in St. Gabriel, Louisiana (Iberville Parish) about 10 miles south of LSU Baton Rouge campus.  The St. Gabriel Research Station was established as an administrative unit June 13, 1968.  The Sugar Research Station was established in 1885.  The Sugar Research Station was relocated to the St. Gabriel Research Station on July 1, 1997.

The St. Gabriel/Sugar Research Station functions primarily as the center of sugarcane breeding activities and as a service unit to all LSU Agricultural Center sugarcane and animal research scientists.  Sugarcane research projects currently being conducted on the station include  breeding, pathology, entomology, weed science, cultural practices, and agricultural engineering.

Our staff at the St. Gabriel Research Station consists of a Resident Coordinator, one Faculty member, five Research Associates, one office staff (administrative) and 12 civil service support personnel.

The St. Gabriel Research Station serves the needs of many of the research projects in the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station, in addition to cooperative efforts with the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, United States Department of Agriculture and the LSU Baton Rouge campus faculty.

Regular business hours are 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday.  Visitors are welcome to the station during these times or to arrange for special tours by request.
