Types of Products and Services

You should expect to find products and services that relate directly to protecting buildings from flood damage by altering the building or the property on which it is built. 
You should not expect to find community-wide flood control works, best management practices for water-quality, wetlands mitigation, floodplain evacuation or other related components of flood protection. 

As we grow, we hope you'll be able to see many examples of floodproofing and learn something about how they were financed and how they performed. In some cases the locations of the properties will be non-specific in order to meet the privacy requirements of the property owner.

Accuracy, honesty and good practice

The products and services you find listed in the Floodproofing Virtual Mall were offered by the manufacturers and service providers. Their merits are self-proclaimed. Appearance in the Mall is not an endorsement. While we expect providers to give honest, accurate information about their products and services, we cannot guarantee they will. 

Providers are responsible for the accuracy of their information. The mall serves to put you in touch with goods and services that may suit your application. Evaluate them as you would any purchase. Appearance in the Mall is not cause for special consideration.

The AgCenter provides general guidance on choosing and hiring a contractor in Louisiana. Due to differences in contract and consumer protection laws some aspects of this guidance may not apply in other states. 

Making it work for everyone

The Mall will grow and be a valuable resource if the shoppers and providers have similar understandings of its purpose and generally positive experiences with it. We appeal to all to use the mall for its intended purpose and to respect the limits established by the manager.

In particular we call your attention to the fact that some individuals and companies listed in the mall work directly with homeowners - and some contract only with states, communities and businesses, not with individual homeowners. Homeowners are asked not to attempt to engage companies and individuals that have indicated they do not work directly with homeowners.

Reporting problems

If you have a problem contacting a manufacturer and/or service provider and the problem appears to be with the information contained in the mall listing (e.g., incorrect phone number or web address) you should attempt to notify the provider by an alternate method. Failing that, please notify the Mall Manager using the "Envelope" icon on the navigation bar at the top of each page. 

We do not provide an avenue for public expression by people who have had good or bad experiences with a particular product or company. The Mall Comments form is intended to provide users (shoppers and vendors) with a means or providing feedback that will improve the function of the Mall. We do not solicit comments on listed products or services; those comments should be made to the providers directly. Comments submitted to the mall become the property of the LSU AgCenter and may be used for any legal purpose.
