Installing Temporary Window Shutters

Installing storm shutters over all exposed windows and other glass surfaces is one of the easiest and most effective was to protect your home.  For detailed instructions on making and installing temporary wind shutters we refer you to pages 4-5 of  Against the Wind, a joint publication of FEMA, the Red Cross and others.  (See pages 6-7 in this PDF file)

Note:  LSU engineers caution that the final paragraph (p 5 of the publication; p 7 of the PDF file) on bracing plywood shutters for large windows contains a typographical error.  ALL bracing should be screwed to the outer face of the shutter, not to the inside face.
