Detention Alert #16-08

The US Food & Drug Administration issued Alert # 16-08 on March 17, 2004 . This alert is tilted "Detention Without Physical Examination", and notified all FDA field personnel with the guidance to detain all entries of swordfish and swordfish products without physical examination. However, the alert gives a LONG LIST of importing companies who are EXEMPT from this automatic detainment guidance. This alert is in response to analyses conducted by the FDA over the last six months of 1986 which found 43% of 127 samples of imported swordfish to contain volatile levels (the defect action level is 1.00 ppm of methyl mercury).
